The Rhone in Geneva
Geneva is located at the south-west tip of Lake Geneva, where the river Rhone is leaving Lake Geneva and continues its course towards Lyon and the south of France.
Geneva is the seat of many international organisations. Geneva, the western most city of Switzerland, is surrounded on 3 sides by France. Geneva's home mountain, the Mount Salève, is situated in France.
The bridges over the river Rhone in the region of Geneva, counting from the Lake in downstream direction:
- Pont du Mont-Blanc
- Pont des Bergues, a footbridge
- Pont de la Machine, a footbridge
- Ponts de l'Ile
- Pont de la Coulouvrenière
- Barrage du Seujet
- Pont Sous-Terre
- Viaduc de la Jonction (Junction bridge)
- Pont Butin
- Pont Autoroute A1
- Pont d'Aire-la-Ville
- Barrage de Verbois
- Pont d'Avully
- Barrage de Pougny-Chancy
- Pont de la Douane between Pougny, France, D984b and Chancy, Switzerland
- Pont Carnot, Bridge on road D1206 between Longeray, département Ain, France and Faramaz, département Haute-Savoie, France
- Railway bridge at Le Longeray
Since Geneva is not the only large city on the banks of the Lake, an own name for the Lake like in French
Lac Léman
is better suited, than a name referring to a city.
